Voter Registration and Elections

The UCLA Graduate and Undergraduate Student Associations have ended their annual Presidential Primary Election Voter registration drive, and have registered over 1,700 students at UCLA to vote in the February 5, 2008 Presidential Primary Election.

Upcoming Elections:

  • Statewide Direct Primary Election, June 3, 2008
    • The voter registration deadline for this election is May 19, 2008.
  • General Election, November 4, 2008
    • The voter registration deadline for this election is October 30, 2008.

1. How do I find my polling place?

For Los Angeles county residents, use this website and type in your address for your polling place and sample ballot: www.lavote.net/locator

For residents of other counties, use this website to find your county registrar’s office and their link to polling places: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_d.htm

2. What time are the polls open?

Polls are open on election day from 7:00am to 8:00pm.

3. What if I want to vote by mail?

Any registered voter may vote by “vote-by-mail” ballot. Please use this website for detailed information on how you may request a vote-by-mail ballot, or obtain permanent vote-by-mail status: www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_m.htm

Also, please remember that the deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot is 7 days before an election.

4. When do vote-by-mail ballots have to be returned?

Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by election officials no later than the close of polls (8:00pm) on election day. They may be returned in person to any polling place in your county on election day.

5. When should I re-register to vote?

You should re-register to vote if you wish to change political affiliation, if you have moved, or if you have changed your name.

6. How do I register to vote?

The UCLA GSA and USAC offices will usually have voter registration forms inside their offices. You may also get a voter registration form from the county elections office, library, or U.S. Post Office. You may also download a voter registration form from the Secretary of State website.
