Description of GSA Non-Stipended Campus-Wide Appointments

This document contains a listing and descriptions of all non-stipended positions to which the UCLA Graduate Students Association makes yearly appointments. All appointments listed here are made by the GSA President. If you are interested in volunteering for any of the positions listed on this page, please contact the Graduate Students Association at (310) 206-8512 or pres@gsa.asucla.ucla.edu. Our office is located at 316 Kerckhoff Hall.

DESCRIPTIONS

CAMPUS POLICY COMMITTEES

Campus Facilities Coordinating Commission (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The commission consists of ten members.
  2. Duties: The commission reviews and makes recommendations on University facility use policies, makes recommendations to the Vice Chancellor-Institutional Relations regarding institutional sponsorship of non-University groups which request the use of University facilities and act as an appeal body on decisions to deny the use of a facility made by campus facility managers or departments.

Wooden Center Board of Governors (4 GSA representatives + 2 alternates)

  1. Membership: The board consists of twelve regular members and four alternate members.
  2. Duties: The board is responsible for the determination and review of operating policies regarding program scheduling, facility use or access, fiscal and management operations of the building, and any renovations or additions which alter the function or design of the facility. The board is also responsible for the annual review and approval of equipment maintenance expenses and the use of excess funds generated by the indenture program or gifts specifically designated for the program. The board establishes non-student and other usage fees.

Student Activities Center Board of Governors (4 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The board consists of undergraduates, graduates, and staff.
  2. Duties: The board is responsible for the determination and review of operating policies regarding program scheduling, facility use or access, fiscal and management operations of the building, and any renovations or additions which alter the function or design of the facility. Financial Aid Policy Committee (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of four members.
  2. Duties: The Financial Aid Policy Committee was originally established because of a decreased supply of and increased demand for financial aid money. The committee meets to make decisions about major issues and controversies involved in the management and allocation of financial aid funds.

Transportation Services Advisory Board (1 GSA representative)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of twelve members.
  2. Duties: The purpose of the committee is to review current campus transportation and parking policies. These policies include the Transportation Systems Demand Management Plan that encompasses Commuter Assistance Ride sharing, campus transit, campus parking, and other programs. The committee also looks into fiscal and financial plans along with prospective fees to support the campus transportation and parking system in the future.

Graduate Student Housing Oversight Committee (4 GSA Nominations) [ This committee is new and being developed with the new Housing ]

  1. Membership: The committee consists of nine to thirteen members
  2. Duties: The Committee's primary responsibility would be to monitor implementation of new graduate student housing policies and allocation practices and to annually determine graduate housing allocations and necessary policy adjustments based on actual experience. The Committee also would make decisions on other issues related to graduate student housing policy as identified by faculty, staff, or graduate students.

Information Technology Planning Board - (1 GSA representative)

  1. Membership: The Board consists of 18 members (including 1 Graduate and 1 Undergraduate Student)
  2. Duties: The Board is the primary governance and oversight body for information technology and services at UCLA. It reviews and makes recommendations to UCLA's executive management and Senate leadership regarding information technology, including budget and policy matters, and strategic opportunities regarding investment in and deployment of information technology.

Student and Campus Life Technology Workgroup (1 GSA representative)

  1. Membership: The workgroup consists of eight members (6 UCLA staff, 1 undergrad, 1 grad).
  2. Duties: Investigate legal digital entertainment services that could possibly be introduced to the campus community. Along with technical folk from Communications Technology Services and the Student Technology Center, interview prospective vendors (there is already have a list of approved vendors). Recommend specific vendors and services to a committee composed of high level administrators. Create a timeline for testing and rollout. Communicate/market the services to the student body (students will not be forced to subscribe to any of the services contracted).

UCLA Recreation Advisory Board (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: Approximately 16 members.
  2. Duties: Provide input to the entire spectrum of UCLA Recreation services, including the John Wooden Center and the Student Activities Center. The Board's purpose is to represent the broad and varied recreational interests and needs of the entire campus community, and to act in an advisory role on programmatic issues, policy interpretations, strategic directions of the department, programmatic development, capital planning, and non-student fees. The Board is responsible for assisting in maintaining a cooperative relationship among entities sharing recreational facilities; the promotion of user satisfaction and program development in all recreational facilities and services at UCLA; and ensuring that the university is addressing the needs of students, faculty, staff and the university community for high quality recreational facilities and programs.

CHANCELLORIAL ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Disability (3 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of thirty-three members.
  2. Duties: The committee functions to identify and analyze problems, propose solutions and make recommendations on matters of particular interest to persons with disabilities in the UCLA campus, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, patients, and visitors.

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Religion, Ethics and Values (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of twenty-eight members.
  2. Duties: The committee's purpose is to provide a formal mechanism for dealing with many issues of mutual concern involving issues of religious intolerance.

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Gay and Lesbian Community at UCLA (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of twelve members.
  2. Duties: The central purpose of the committee is to make recommendations designed to end any overt or covert oppression directed at people on the basis of their sexual orientation. In addition to correcting such negative treatment of gays and lesbians at UCLA, the committee can simultaneously identify opportunities for gays and lesbians, recognize them for their contributions to UCLA, and participate in progress toward a truly pluralistic community.

Chancellor's Enrollment Advisory Committee (1 GSA representative)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of x members.
  2. Duties: The committee advises the Chancellor on enrollment decision making to ensure that (1) decisions are based on input from a variety of campus consituencies; (2) long-range enrollment planning and short-term decision making are closely linked; (3) enrollment planning is bottom-up and top-down; (4) academic and non-academic factors inform decision making; and (5) enrollment planning is efficient, inclusive, and aligned with strategic planning. CEAC meets twice a quarter. Meetings last approximately two hours.

Chancellor's Student Conduct Committee (1 GSA representative + 1 alternate)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of ten members.
  2. Duties: The committee shall provide hearings for all cases referred to it under the Student Conduct Code of Procedures. It will also hear appeals by students from adjudications involving student conduct arising from the disciplinary bodies of a professional school.

Chancellor's Council on Diversity (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The Council consists of approximately 25 members made up of faculty, staff, and students.
  2. Duties: The Council is charged with overseeing the achievement of diversity in all areas of the University, including the curriculum, undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, faculty and staff recruitment, student recruitment and retention, and promotion of a hospitable campus environment. The Council recommendations seek to help the Chancellor achieve the goal of creating a genuine multi-ethnic community at UCLA as described in his Statement on Diversity (October 1988).

Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability (2 GSA representatives)

  1. Membership: The committee consists of 15 members.
  2. The Director of the Environmental Coalition and one GSA appointee have seats on the Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Sustainability. The CACS is a new committee of faculty, staff and student representatives promoting sustainability campus wide.
