Babnik

Event Date: October 12, 2010 - 7:30pm

Location: The James Bridges Theater, Melnitz Hall, UCLA

In Babnik, the third feature from Bay Area-based filmmaker Alejandro Adams, menace hangs at the edges of every shot. At the film’s center are Misha and Sasha, two Russian thugs trafficking in a variety of unsavory activities - most of which involve the exploitation of other Russian immigrants. As the two go about their dealings with a shadowy operation that may or may not be an underground prostitution ring their influence bri...ngs together characters from throughout the immigrant community and leads to a climax of staggering emotional and political resonance. Formally rigorous and intellectually daring, Babnik is one of the major American independent features of the year.
