LA Premiere: SAINT (Dick Maas, 2010)
Event Date: October 27, 2011 - 7:30pm
Location: The James Bridges Theater, Melnitz Hall 1409, UCLA
From the Melnitz Movies Director, Samuel B. Prime:
Dick Maas is the far too oft-unrecognized maven of 1980s horror films. Cut from the same stuff as cult canon favorites such as John Carpenter & Wes Craven, but by comparison lacking mainstream, international recognition, Maas has achieved national fame in the Netherlands, but his work has been rarely seen outside Europe. SAINT is Maas' latest work, a tongue-in-cheek, holiday-themed horror tale of a 500-year-old zombie St. Nick, in the tradition of his earlier films, THE LIFT (1983) and AMSTERDAMNED (1988). We are honored to host the Los Angeles premiere of Dick Maas' SAINT.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An original and delightfully gruesome slasher film, SAINT re-imagines jolly old Saint Nick as a murderous bishop fulfilling a grisly prophecy under the December full moon. Packed with creative yuletide horror, SAINT is a fun chiller that follows local teen Frank as he sets out on a bloody, high-energy battle to save Amsterdam from the wrathful “Sinterklaas” and his minions.

"Keep your spirits high with this Netherland creation film as it is as fun to watch as it is creepy. A solid horror film promising to be the next icon, perhaps its time for St. Nicholas to take over. I loved every bit of this violent horror masterwork." -HorrorNews.Net
"Dick Maas is [an] expert at producing tense entertainment!"
- Mark Adams, SCREEN DAILY
"While the controversy revolves around Holland's St. Nick, Maas has crafted a great film in the vein of SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT and mixes it with some great stunts. It is clear why Dick Maas is truly one of the most underrated directors to come from the Netherlands." -Albert Valentin
"Quite the thriller. It's a fast-paced slasher flick with a distinctly Northern European penchant for the ridiculous, and it disappoints in neither its romping absurdity nor well-timed suspense. And while the cultural distance between our understanding of Santa Claus and the distinctly Dutch and Flemish Sinterklaas creates the occasional block from getting 100% out of the movie's wit, there's something terribly universal about a 500-year-old zombie on horseback with a mission to kill." - Daniel Walber, SPOUT
