Shanna Gong is a Ph.D. student in the sociology department at UCLA, where she also received her B.S. in Molecular, Cell, Developmental Biology. She has research interests in sociology of gender, sociology of work, and environmental sociology. Her current master’s project uses ethnographic methods to analyze state and market influences on the burgeoning U.S. food movement. This past year, Shanna started UCLA’s first Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in partnership with the South Central Farmers Cooperative.

Quirky fact about Shanna:
Shanna has a penchant for wilderness mishaps, i.e. getting lost in Joshua tree and a brief but memorable encounter with a brown bear in Sequoia National Park.
