Getting Involved

Want to get involved with campus life, meet graduate students from other departments, and maybe even earn a little cash on the side? Here are seven ways you can get involved in GSA:

More on the Seven Ways to Get Involved in GSA

1. Academic or Professional Councils

Every department is part of an academic council representing students in related disciplines. Positions may be available in your department or in your academic council right now! Visit the Academic Councils page to learn more about your council.

2. Student Interest Groups

Student Interest Groups are an important component of GSA, providing a means of representation for groups that cross academic lines. You may be interested in joining a group, starting a new group, or resurrecting a defunct one--check out the list of current groups on the Student Interest Board page.

3. Volunteer with Campus-Wide GSA Programs!

GSA Cabinet directors lead a variety of programming and advocacy efforts for graduate students on this campus, and many need interested volunteers! Learn about programs and local and statewide lobbying efforts by contacting the directors listed on the Cabinet page.

4. Stipended Appointments

Every spring, GSA accepts applications for several Cabinet Director positions and Campus-Wide Committees. Stipends typically range from $600-$1200 per quarter. Application deadline is early May, and interviews are held in mid-May. Current vacancies are are listed under Appointments.

5. Non-Stipended Appointments

Every June and August (and sometimes later, depending on availability), applications are taken for Campus-Wide Committees and Academic Senate Committees. Current vacancies are are listed under Appointments.

6. Participate in GSA Elections

Every spring, the graduate and professional student body selects four GSA officers. You can learn about the officer positions and voting procedures on the Elections Website. Even if you don't run for office, be sure to cast your vote and help choose your leaders in the Spring quarter.

7. Attend GSA-Sponsored Events

Attending our workshops and events is a great way to show your support for GSA and meet other graduate and professional students. Subscribe to one or more of our Mailing Lists, or join our Facebook group, if you want to receive updates about events and activities.
