Tax Exemptions

GSA is actively campaigning to get graduate student fellowships and scholarships tax exempt. This project is a national movement to get a tax bill passed in Congress.

Tax Preparation

Do you need help doing your taxes? The Vita Program at UCLA helps UCLA community members properly prepare their annual federal and state income tax returns free of charge. The VITA program operates in early to mid-April. Assistance is available only to US residents. The staff is not trained to prepare non-resident returns. International graduate students looking for assistance with their taxes can attend non-resident tax workshops sponsored by the Office of International Students and Scholars. OISS also recommends that international students review the Non-Resident Tax Information Page that they have prepared. Both US and non-resident graduate students who received fellowships should review Graduate Divisions webpage on tax issues.
