Beyond 4 Walls Book Drive

Reading changes lives. We ask you to partner with us to impact and improve the lives of incarcerated children and teenagers, by purchasing books for the BEYOND 4 WALLS BOOK DRIVE to benefit the 600+ children and teens housed at the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Detention Facility in Sylmar. The book drive runs from May 18-June 8, 2007, with a culminating reception on Wednesday, June 6, at the Kerckhoff Art Gallery. Congratulations to Hanson and LuValle Award Recipients

The 2007 recipients of the Jeffrey L. Hanson Distinguished Service Award and the James LuValle Distinguished Service Award have been announced. 2007 GSA Logo Scholarship Competition Winner Announced!

The GSA wishes to thank all who submitted to the 2007 GSA Logo Scholarship Competition. We were overwhelmed by the terrific response and the incredible talent pool among graduate students here at UCLA. It was very difficult to choose a winner, but in the end our judges selected a logo that they feel best represents the GSA's mission, values and purpose. The winner of the 2007 GSA Logo Competition is Parisa Popalzai, a PhD student in the Islamic Studies Program. See the Logo Contest page for more details.

Seeking Nominations for GSA Awards

GSA annually gives out two awards to acknowledge those who have served the Graduate Students Association and graduate students: the Jeffrey L. Hanson Distinguished Service Award and the James LuValle Distinguished Service Award. If you know such an individual, please consider nominating them. Forms and additional information about the purpose and history of the awards are available on the Awards page. Nominations are due May 9.

Rally at the UC Regents Meeting Wednesday, March 14

New Graduate Student Orientation - Friday, September 22

The second annual campus-wide New Graduate Student Orientation, sponsored by GSA and the Graduate Student Resource Center, will take place on Friday September 22. The event includes a plenary session, workshops, a resource fair, and a free lunch for all registered participants. If you haven't registered yet, you can do so on MyUCLA!

GSA is currently seeking applications for non-stipended appointments for the 2006-07 academic year. There is also one stipended position available on the Community Activities Committee. All interested graduate and professional students are encouraged to apply. No GSA or student government experience is required. Every year, GSA appoints nineteen graduate students to serve on committees of the Academic Senate, the faculty and administrative governing body on campus for academic-related matters. These positions serve a vital function in ensuring that graduate student interests are represented when important issues affecting our education are considered. Date Set for Graduate Student Orientation
