Jamal was born and raised in Los Angeles; a life-long Angelino who's an avid fan of the Lakers, Dodgers and both USC and UCLA. He completed a BA in Applied Mathematics and a BS in Computer Engineering/Computer Science from USC in 2006. Directly thereafter, he enrolled at UCLA and completed an MS in Electrical Engineering in 2008 with an emphasis in Embedded Computing Systems. His masters thesis research was focused on the area of wireless networking and computational modeling for the healthcare industry; primarily on the design and development of a Wireless Telehealth Kiosk. He is now currently working on his PhD in Biomedical Engineering, in the Medical Imaging and Informatics (MII) track. This training program is one of only 20 programs of its kind nationwide, funded by NIH, and one of only 2 programs to be imaging based. Jamal plans to complete research in the area of disease modeling via bayesian belief networks and hidden markov models.

Quirky fact about Jamal:
Jamal has been to every NBA Finals game of the Lakers since 2000, plans to continue that streak this year.
