Originally from Oxnard, in Ventura County California, Miguel first moved to Santa Barbara where he completed his bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara in 2004. There he completed an ambitious research project and presented his findings at the American Sociological Association Annual Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. He was also elected as student body President in his last year and served as the official student representative on all local, state, and federal matters. He also exercised his organization and managerial skills and oversaw a $3.04 million fiscal operating budget, and full staff/departmental supervision. He has served on a number of university boards and committees and volunteered his time with many community organizations.
In 2005, Miguel moved to Los Angeles to pursue his education and interests in higher education. After completing his Masters degree, Miguel continued with his research training in the doctoral program in Higher Education and Organizational Change. He has served as a Teaching Assistant in the Graduate School of Education and a Teaching Associate in the Cesar E. Chavez Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research has focused on access and equity, student/personal development, individual and interpersonal processes, and organizational behavior. More recently, his work has focused on diversity, campus climate, and the experience of underrepresented students and faculty of color at American colleges and universities. At UCLA, Miguel has served as President of the Graduate School of Education, on the Education Executive Committee, Vice Chair of the Student Fee Advisory Committee, and on the Executive Committee of the UC Council on Student Fees.

Inspired by friends, Miguel is determined to train for and run the LA Marathon in the coming year.
