UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center (MARC)
Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior

Our mission is to foster mindful awareness through education and research to promote well-being and a more compassionate society.

Mindful Awareness is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical, mental and emotional experiences. Mindful Awareness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. Mindful Awareness Practices (MAPs) are tools and exercises such as meditation, yoga and tai-chi that develop greater mind-body awareness and promote mindfulness in daily life.

Our Center:

  • offers classes, workshops, and monthly lecture series to the general public, teaching the skills of mindfulness across the lifespan.
  • fosters and publicizes research to support the scientific benefits of mindful awareness.
  • brings mindfulness to professionals through UCLA’s medical education program—including doctors, medical students, staff and faculty.
  • offers mindfulness tools and classes to support mental health professionals.
  • brings mindfulness into pre-K through grade 12 education via teacher training programs and mindful awareness classes in the schools.

UCLA Society for Postdoctoral Scholars

The society was formed in 2004 for the purpose of helping postdocs on campus in their quest for careers and improved quality of life. It has held seminars on career development, had informal social events, and setup a website for discussion and event organization. The society welcomes graduate students at its events. The web address is www.postdoc.ucla.edu.
