  • Description: Responsible for statewide and national legislative advocacy that directly impact graduate and professional students through tracking legislation

    Compensation: At least $1000/quarter (depending on the annual GSA Budget approval)

    Reporting Officer: Vice President External

    Appointment Type: GSA Director

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinating with local leaders and politicians, and creating awareness within the student body

    • Coordinating with other UC campuses to plan Graduate Student Advocacy Day in Sacramento

    • Attend 75% of GSA Cabinet Meetings

    • Maintain and promptly respond to messages sent to their official email and Slack accounts.

    • Must attend at least one (1) GSA Forum per quarter unless otherwise stated.

    • Serve as the External Vice President’s proxy for meetings with the UC President, UCOP, UCGPC, as needed

  • Description: Responsible for local, statewide and national organizing as well as grassroots advocacy in support of graduate and professional student issues such as UAW and AFSCME. Compensation: At least $1000/quarter (depending on the annual GSA Budget approval)

    Reporting Officer: Vice President External

    Appointment Type: GSA Director

    Responsibilities:

    • Must work with student organizations and GSA councils, etc. to create effective campaigns

    • Develop strategic plans to implement system-wide advocacy campaigns at UCLA, but also within the UC system such as through UCGPC (UC Graduate and Professional Student Council)

    • Serve as the EVP’s liaison to the North Westwood Neighborhood Council and UCLA Alumni Board through attendance

    • Scheduling visits with City Council representatives, etc. when necessary to push advocacy at the local community level

    • Attend 75% of GSA Cabinet Meetings

    • Maintain and promptly respond to messages sent to their official email and Slack accounts.

    • Must attend at least one (1) GSA Forum per quarter unless otherwise stated.

  • Description: Responsible for being the GSA’s liaison in all matters of diversity and equity affecting the GSA student body

    Compensation: At least $1600/quarter (depending on the annual GSA Budget approval)

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates with the GSA Student Interests groups in creating and promoting programming and events

    • Coordinates with GSA Cabinet to promote programming to support Diversity initiatives

    • Oversees all appointees to committees that serve to promote Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity

    • Maintains a relationship between GSA and UCLA’s Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity

    • Attend 75% of GSA Cabinet Meetings

    • Maintain and promptly respond to messages sent to their official email and Slack accounts.

  • Description: The primary mission of the Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is to provide advice to the University Administration on policies/programs to advance faculty diversity, including the recruitment and retention of women and underrepresented minorities. The Committee administers the annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Awards, and provides advice to the Academic Senate on issues relating to diversity and equal opportunity in the University community.

    Responsibilities:

  • Description: The Graduate Council is delegated to make policy for graduate education at UCLA, except for the M.D., J.D., LL. M., S.J.D. and D.D.S degrees. It recommends to the Legislative Assembly graduate programs leading to new degrees, as well as disestablishment or consolidation of existing degrees. It periodically reviews and evaluates all graduate programs of study (in conjunction with Undergraduate Council's review of the related undergraduate program, where appropriate). It also recommends to the systemwide Coordinating Committee on Graduate Affairs proposals for new graduate programs leading to existing degrees and new programs leading to graduate level certificates.

    Appointment Type: Academic Senate Committee

    Responsibilities:

    • Meets on alternate Fridays during the academic year from 2:00-4:00pm

    • Write meeting notes during all committee meetings and share meeting notes with the Director of the Academic Senate

  • Description: The Undergraduate Council (UgC) makes policy for undergraduate education at UCLA; recommends to the Legislative Assembly undergraduate programs leading to new degrees; authorizes, supervises and regulates all undergraduate courses and programs of instruction and preparatory education; periodically reviews and evaluates all undergraduate programs of study and all programs of preparatory education in conjunction with the Graduate Council; and sets standards for honors and recommends procedures for awards of undergraduate scholarships. Fully online undergraduate courses require the submission of additional questions, which can be found in the "UCLA Undergraduate Fully Online Course Approval Policy."   • Description: The principal charge of the Faculty Welfare Committee is to advise the Division and confer with administrative agencies on all matters involving the economic welfare of the faculty, including but not limited to the level of salaries, salary determination methodology, benefits, insurance, retirement, housing and conditions of employment.

  • Description: The Graduate and Professional Student Welfare Committee supports the academic success and personal and professional wellbeing of graduate and professional school students at UCLA. The committee is composed of students, staff, administrators, and faculty.

    Responsibilities:

    • Attend at least two meetings per quarter; complete committee tasks; and participate on subcommittees as needed.

    Key Initiatives

    The committee is charged with the following:

    a. To share information and develop collaborations that improve graduate student welfare;

    b. To set an agenda for addressing specific issues that have an impact on graduate student welfare and to work with the members' constituencies in order to effect change

    i. Identify barriers to accessing resources and services

    ii. Identify barriers to communication with the graduate student population and identify solutions/systems that could improve communication and dissemination of information (related to resources and services)

    c. To serve as an advisory committee to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Dean of Graduate Education, who report to the EVCP

  • Description: UCLA Committee on Disability (UCOD) is advisory to Chancellor Block regarding the needs of the students, staff, faculty, and the community at large that are disabled. In addition UCOD will provide recommendations to promote awareness, education, and inclusiveness.

    Responsibilities

  • Description: DFS serves to bring together campus stakeholders to share information and encourage collaboration, and where necessary, review policy and form task forces.  The committee was formed to support UCLA compliance with the Drug-Free Schools & Communities Act of 1989, which mandates substance abuse prevention among students, staff and faculty at federally-funded institutions of higher education.

    Responsibilities:

  • Description: Provides hearings for all student cases referred to it under the Student Conduct Code. Must attend an orientation session as directed by the Office of Student Conduct. Meets when there is training and a case to be heard, including summer and breaks.

  • Description: The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is a grant-making fund for sustainability projects on UCLA's campus. The goal of The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is to enable and empower students to take an active role in making UCLA a leader in sustainability. TGIF will provide much needed funding for projects that reduce UCLA's negative impact on the environment.

  • Description: The Student Risk Education Committee's main purpose is to educate the campus on best practices to mitigate and manage risk and liability as it pertains to service to the on- and off-campus communities. It's key roles include: funding security and risk management measures for registered campus organizations (who apply via the PLEDGE Fund Proposal); educating student volunteers on youth safety (through Youth Safety Training) and best practices for responding to potential harm to youth; overseeing Driver Safety Training which ensures student volunteers are knowledgeable of best practices while driving other volunteers and service recipients; and informing best practices to health project volunteers through Hypertension and CPR Trainings.

  • Description: The UCLA Basic Needs Committee’s main responsibilities include representing the campus needs at the UC-systemwide level, creating the campus implementation plan to address basic needs insecurity, evaluating existing basic needs efforts and programs, and advocating for additional support from both internal and external entities.

In addition to correcting negative treatment of LGBTQIAs at UCLA, the committee can identify opportunities, recognize community members for their contributions to UCLA and the LGBTQIA community, and promote a truly equal society.

The committee makes its recommendations to the UCLA Office of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Development and the Senior Executive Director of Student Health Services.
