GSA Hardship Fund

About.

GSA Hardship Fund was established in Spring 2020.

The UCLA Graduate Student Association Hardship Fund Program helps students with unforeseen expenses arising from a crisis. The fund offers limited help as a stop-gap measure in an emergency situation. The funds are not a secondary form of college financing. The funds are provided to quickly address financial setbacks, and to help students stay focused on their coursework while progressing toward graduation. The funding limit is $700 per student per academic year.

Application Review Process.

Applications were sent to the fund email address. GSA executive officers reviewed the application and scrubbed it of identifying information. The anonymous applications were given a number ID then sent to the Evaluation Committee. The Evaluation Committee was made up of forum delegate volunteers. Applications were evaluated in committee and both approval and amount of funding was determined. Student Government Accounting (ASUCLA) processed funding requests and mailed checks to recipients.

FAQ

I know applications have closed but I really need financial support. Where do I go?
We recommend reaching out to the Economic Crisis Response Team. They are fully equipped to connect you to a variety of financial support resources. You can also visit https://www.studentincrisis.ucla.edu/ for other financial support available to UCLA students.

Will you be processing applications for Summer 2020?
If GSA has exhausted it's funding for this fiscal year, we will stop process the applications.

Will you be processing applications for the 2020-2021 school year?
The GSA Hardship Fund is dependent on surplus funds. As such, we will not know the fiscal status of the fund until mid-Fall quarter and funds will be transferred pending the approval of GSA Forum.

UCLA donated $50,000 to the fund. Where did that money go?
In the Spring 2020 cycle, we exhausted that donation in support of 164 graduate students.
