Join a pláticas/conversation with members of the Hispanic Serving Institutions
The goal is to obtain input on what the Chicanx, Latinx, and/or Hispanic experience has been for graduate and professional students.
Considering our conversation on the importance of graduate and professional experiences we kept a promise I made to you in September to insure anything I do is explicitly welcoming to the graduate and professional student community. I am hoping you will assist us in letting the GSA community know about these important opportunities. In the event students cannot make it, there is a survey that welcomes graduate and professional student input that will be used in our report to the Chancellor.

Academic Accommodations
If you are a student with a physical or mental disability and would like support for your studies in the way of accommodations you are required to register with the Center for Accessible Education (CAE). However, CAE is designed to provide accommodations for specific courses and course requirements. As any graduate student will tell you, graduate education, its forms and requirements, are extremely varied and are not encapsulated solely in course accommodations. Additionally, in many cases graduate students are conducting research and no longer taking traditional in-person courses.
Anecdotally, GSA has been receiving reports that graduate students are unable to receive adequate accommodations for their studies as the accommodations developed by CAE do not account for the differences between undergraduate and graduate education. We are currently gathering information from our student body regarding support in accommodations. We are open to feedback at this time. Please fill out the survey below.

Advocacy with UCLA Transportation
The GSA knows that these past four months of sheltering-in-place have been quite an adjustment for graduate students. As UCLA plans out its reopening protocol, we want you to know that the GSA is committed to advocating for student financial wellness and recovery. Recently, UCLA announced that parking permit fees, which were waived for the spring quarter, would be reinstated as of June. However, during the last session of COVID-19 effects bargaining, both UAW 2865 and UAW 5810—the union for postdoctoral scholars and academic researchers—passed proposals to eliminate parking permits for the duration of the pandemic. To protect graduate students from the potential financial strain this reinstatement of parking permit fees could bring, the GSA needs you!
Make your voice heard by taking the reopening survey to share your concerns about campus reopening, commuting, and parking.

Barriers to Education During COVID-19
This Survey will be used to gather student feedback for GSA's Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). The OAA is at the frontlines of policy-making at UCLA. This information will be used to best represent student interests when we are meeting with administrators and proposing resources for the graduate student body.
We can only help you if you let us know what you need.
